Last week on Instagram, I asked what would you prefer to see next – living room design or office design plans for our new home? Let’s just say living room won by a landslide! So here it is, our new cozy and causal living room design plans. If you didn’t realize we’re moving, or need a refresher, read our house update here.
Disclaimer – these design plans might change. Heck, they WILL change. I know that once we are living in the space, we will change our minds as we get a feel of the space and the layout.

Just a reminder – here’s what our last living room looked like. Nate and I DIY’d a handful of projects in this space, and we plan to do the same in our new living room. The project list is already growing (get ready Nate). In fact, our old living room and new living room will be about the same size, with a slightly different layout.

Earlier this year, in April we toured a home that will be very similar to ours. Here’s a quick photo I snapped, to give you an idea of the space. Very similar to our layout (minus the fireplace and we’ll have 10′ ceilings, not 9′ like this image). You can also see a peek at the 9′ patio door! We picked out the same one, which I’ll share in the upcoming weeks. This is also the same lvp flooring we picked out for our home.

The vision for our new living room is, cozy, casual, with a mix of creamy whites, light greys, natural woods and a dash of black. Doesn’t this sectional look oh so cozy for curling up in and do you recognize that ottoman from our last home? I’d like to maximize seating in this space so an L shaped sectional would be the most practical for the space and seating. Or even two sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace, sounds dreamy doesn’t it?

First DIY Proj
One thing missing in our new living room, that we had in our old home, is a fireplace. Nate and I plan on adding a fireplace and it is one of the first projects planned for this space. There are a ton of tutorials on Pinterest and online for a DIY electric fireplace, and of course, we will share our journey as we DIY our own. I haven’t pinned down an exact design and am sharing a few inspiration pictures below.
To give you an idea, the living room space will be 13’x17′ so not overly large. The living space will also have 10′ ceilings and two narrow windows that will adorn the fireplace. I’d love to create a focal point with a floor to ceiling fireplace with a faux concrete look; however, I love the timeless look of the first image below. We still have a few months to plan out the fireplace, so for now, this thought is on hold.

I’d love to know, which fireplace do you prefer? Drop your vote in the comments below!
