Happy summer! I can’t believe it’s been over 2 months since I wrote a blog post. Talk about a busy summer!
I thought it was time for a well overdue house update (and if you didn’t know that we were selling our home, you can read more about that here). But first, I thought I would give you a little background about why we decided to sell our home after just 15 months of living in it. And no, it wasn’t because we ran out of projects (I did get this question a lot). I had an endless list of projects, most that we never even got to. It was actually the opposite. Because we finished our basement and added an additional bedroom, bathroom and living space, we added equity into our home. The market is so hot right now that we were able to sell our home for much more than we paid for it. So ultimately, it was a good financial move for our family.
There is also the story of the surprise condo buildings. 4 of them to be exact. Right off our quite little cul-de-sac. So we decided to sell before the condos were fully built. They honestly were a deal breaker for us (and for others that looked at buying our home). After 3 weeks on the market, we received an offer we couldn’t refuse and closed just a short 3 weeks later! It’s all happened so fast, but we know it’s all happening for a reason.
So where are we now with the home building process? I’m happy to say that we have selected a local builder, Jordahl Custom Homes and have a closing date set for end of November. While our home is being built, we are currently renting a home that was just built in a brand new neighborhood. We’re thrown back into the thickets of new construction building with cement trucks and diggers right outside our window. Good thing we’re used to the 6 am construction noise. Ha!
Anyways, back to our builder. We specifically chose Jordahl over other builders for two very important-to-us reasons – the floorplan they offered and location. We knew we wanted to build a rambler (1 main level living with a basement), but didn’t like the idea of walking into one giant great room, which is how most ramblers in North Dakota are designed. Jordahl had a few floorplans to chose from and we were able to customize the floorplan from there, such as adding 6′ to our entryway space, changing the 9′ ceilings to 10′, and adding a walk-in pantry of my dreams.

We ended up eliminating one of the three bedrooms and adding an additional bedroom to the basement. Jordahl will be building and completing the main floor for us and Nate and I will get started on the basement right after we move in, so lots more projects coming your way.

We haven’t picked out any interior selections just yet, but I’m already creating mood boards and gathering inspiration like crazy. Can’t wait to share more with you soon!

If you have any questions on building or selling our home, drop them in the comments below. I’d be happy to answer!
No questions just literally SO EXCITED to watch this!! Congratulations!
